PRELIMINARY STEPS
READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY and get a thorough understanding of what is required to assemble your RX series Filter Pump.
Before you begin to assemble the pool, identify, count, and check all parts needed for assembly.
It is recommended that you have some PETROLEUM JELLY on hand for lubricating the gaskets.
FILTER PUMP IMPORTANT NOTES
- Installer shall follow written instructions provided for operation of the filter pump systems.
- All electrical components shall be installed in accordance with Article 680 of the National Electrical Code (NEC) “Swimming Pools, Fountains and Similar Installations” or its latest approved edition.
- The RX Series Filter Pump systems are manufactured by Polygroup™ and ETL control number 4000608 and 4006317 - double insulated and grounded - 120 V.A.C. - 60 Hz. (ALL Units must have a minimum of 105 V.A.C. to start and run properly).

Before assembling your product, please take a few minutes to
check the contents and become familiar with all the parts.
WARNING: CLIMBING HAZARD! PLEASE PREVENT CHILDREN
FROM CLIMBING ON THE FILTER CANISTER TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE POOL.
SETUP INSTRUCTIONS
For pump included with the pool:
Turn the Split Suction Fitting Lock Nut with one end facing downwards, then connect this end to the Pump inlet with a Hose and one Clamp on each end. Connect the other end of the Split Suction Fitting Lock Nut to the Solo Suction Fitting Lock Nut with another hose.
For pump sold separately:
Connect each Solo Suction Fitting Lock Nut with one Hose and one Clamp respectively. Then, connect the other end of the two hoses with the Y-Shaped Hose Connector. Connect the open end of the Y-Shaped Hose Connector to the Pump inlet with one Hose and one Clamp
- Install the Solo or Split Suction Fitting on the outlet opening of the pool.
- Install the Return Fitting on the inlet opening of the pool.
- Remove the Filter Pump Assembly, Hoses, and Hose Clamps from the package.
- Tighten all Hose Clamps to prevent water leakage.
- Do not plug in the filter pump at this point. Follow the pool setup instructions to ensure your pool liner has no wrinkles on the pool floor, and all frame parts are properly aligned. Once the step for your pool setup is complete, begin to fill water until the water level reaches the fill line.
- Air is now trapped inside the Filter Pump system, which will prevent the water from flowing smoothly. To VENT the system (release the trapped air), open the Vent Screw at the top of the pump by turning it counterclockwise. The water pressure will force out all the trapped air inside the Filter Pump system. Tighten the Vent Screw when you see water flowing out from the Seal Top.
- Adjust the Return Fitting Diverter (the diverter is not included or required with all RX systems) to maximize the circulation of the pool water. It is recommended to point the diverter down and away from the suction or water intake for optimum pool circulation.
FILTER PUMP OPERATION
Locate a grounded receptacle at least 15 feet (4.5 m) away from the pool.
To turn on the Pump, plug in the GFCI power cord set to the power outlet.
The GFCI power cord set comes with a pre-set timer function.
Default timer setting: When the power is on, the display screen shows “10”, indicating that the default operating time of the pump is 10 hours.
The pump will automatically turn off after 10 hours and will remain off for 14 hours. This is based on a 24-hour cycle. This cycle will then continue as long as the power is on.
Time adjustment: Press the "SET" button to set the desired operating time of the pump between 1 to 10 hours, with each press adjusting the time by 1 hour. For example, when the display screen on the plug shows “05”, the pump will work for 5 hours and restart after a 19-hour break.
If the display screen shows "0", it indicates that the pre-set working time has ended and the pump is currently off.
To restart the pump earlier than the pre-set time, press the “SET” button. In this case, the pre-set working time will adjust by 1 hour from the previous setting.
To turn off the pump, press the “TEST” button of the GFCI Plug, and unplug it from the power outlet. If you accidentally press the “TEST” button while the pump is working, you can press the “RESET” button to restore the pump to work.
Check the return fitting on the inside of the pool for correct flow; it should feel like a solid stream of water returning to the pool. You can use the return flow as a gauge to determine when the filter needs cleaning or replacement. If you feel a reduction in flow, clean or replace filter.
FILTER CARTRIDGE CLEANING & REPLACEMENT
To clean the Filter Cartridge:
Unplug the Pump from the power outlet. For the Suction Fitting: seal it with the Suction Fitting Cap. For the Return Fitting: seal it with Service Plug
Vent the Pump w by twisting the Vent Screw counterclockwise. (See STEP 3 of "Setting Up the Filter Pump", p. 17).
Using both hands, twist counterclockwise to remove the Seal Top
Take the Cartridge out, pressure wash it thoroughly (including between the pleats) with a garden hose to remove larger debris. Allow it to dry, then carefully brush away smaller and fine particles of dirt. Do NOT scrub the pleats, or the Cartridge will wear out faster than it should. To ensure pool water stays clean, please clean the filter cartridge every day and change when required.
Take the Canister Gasket out and lubricate it liberally with petroleum jelly.
Re-assemble the parts in reverse order. Before restarting your Pump, make sure that you’ve removed the SF Cap and Service Plug.
A spare “stand-by” Cartridge is an excellent investment. You may need to clean or replace the Filter Cartridge when it’s dirty, or before the correct chlorine and pH levels are attained. Also, a clean, well-maintained cartridge assures that your Pump will always be ready to operate at peak efficiency.
Suntan oils, body oils and algae can quickly build up and clog the pleats of the Cartridge, reducing the filtration efficiency. Therefore, it is imperative to remove such films of oils and/or algae. To remove oils: mix 1 pound of tri-sodium phosphate (TSP) or any other strong detergent and 5 gallons of water and soak the Cartridge for 12 hours. To remove oils AND algae: same as above and add ½ pint of pool chlorine or 1 pint of liquid household bleach to the solution ONE HOUR BEFORE removing the Cartridge from the solution. Thoroughly rinse the Cartridge before reusing it.
Excessive calcium and/or mineral deposits may also build up in the Cartridge and require to be handled differently. Contact and consult your local pool supplies store for solutions/treatment and maintain an adequate pH level of pool water (see Caring for Your Pool, below).
Dispose of any used filter media in accordance with applicable regulations/legislation.

POOL MAINTENANCE & WATER CARE
The following items are required to get your pool ready for use. They are available at funsicle.com or your local pool supplies stores:
Test kit – for checking the chlorine and pH levels of the pool water
Floating chlorine dispenser (not included) and chlorine tablet – for water disinfection and prevention of the growth of algae
pH control chemicals – for adjusting the pH level up (soda ash) or down (acid)
Algaecides – to eliminate algae
Superchlorinator – to destroy (“shock”) the combined chlorine, ammonia, nitrogen, and organic compounds that build up in pool water over time and with extended use
Leaf net with handle – for removing leaves, trash, insects, etc. from the pool
IMPORTANT: it is a MUST to maintain the chlorine and pH levels at all times: a. Check and adjust the pH and chlorine levels daily. FILTER PUMP ALONE WILL NOT PREVENT ALGAE FROM GROWING IN POOL WATER; THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE BY MAINTAINING PROPER CHLORINE AND pH LEVELS AT ALL TIMES.
Recommended pH level: between 7.3 and 7.8
Recommended chlorine level: between 1.0 ppm and 1.6 ppm
Superchlorinate your pool at least every other week.
Hot weather and heavy use may require the pH and chlorine levels to be maintained on the upper side of the scale as well as a weekly superchlorination.
Using a pool and/or solar cover will help maintain the pH and chlorine levels by reducing evaporation of pool water.
CAUTION: High chlorine concentration and low pH level will damage the pool/pool liner. You must follow the instructions on quantity and safe usage of the pool chemicals you use. NEVER drop lumps or pellets of chemicals into the pool – this may present a hazard to the swimmers and/or damage your pool liner
Test water and adjust chemicals as needed, read - “POOL WATER CARE”. VERY IMPORTANT“ FILTER PUMP ALONE WILL NOT PREVENT ALGAE FROM GROWING IN POOL WATER; THIS CAN ONLY BE DONE BY MAINTAINING PROPER CHLORINE AND pH LEVELS AT ALL TIMES!
Clean your pool regularly with a garden-hose-powered vacuum from Polygroup® or any pool supplies stores.
Using a foot bath prior to entering the pool will help keep the pool clean.
Avoid using well water. If you must use well water, always seek professional advice from your local pool chemical suppliers before adding ANY chemicals into it.
Find out the water capacity (in gallon) of your pool. You will need it to determine the amount of chemicals required, or when you contact a pool supplies expert for water testing and advice on safe use of chemicals. NOTE: Always follow the manufacturer label directions of the chemicals you choose to use.
NOTE :
Using a pool cover and/or solar cover will assist in maintaining your pH and chlorine levels by reducing the amount of evaporation from your pool.
POOL PUMP DISASSEMBLY & STORAGE
First, turn the pump off and unplug the main power cord of the system.
Remove the RF Diverter from the Return Fitting and then plug the Return Fitting with the RF Plug Now, hand tighten the Suction Fitting Cap onto the Suction Fitting.
Slowly unscrew the Vent Screw from the Seal Top allowing the Filter Pump to depressurize. Remove the Seal Top by turning counterclockwise.
Remove the Filter Cartridge.
Loosen all Hose Clamps, remove the Hoses and allow any remaining water to drain out.
Clean and dry all filter pump parts including filter cartridges.
Liberally lubricate the O-rings at the Seal Top and Gasket 16 on the Canister with petroleum jelly, and then reassemble it, along with the Seal Top, Vent Screw onto the Canister. Store all parts carefully in an airtight plastic bag.
All items should be stored in a dry environment that remains above 32 degrees Fahrenheit at all times.
PUMP REMOVAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR TROUBLESHOOTING
Unplug the Power Filter Pump. Remove the RF Diverter from the Return Fitting and then plug the Return Fitting with the RF Plug. Hand-tighten the Suction Fitting Cap onto the Suction Fitting.
To depressurize the Filter Pump system, vent the filter pump by twisting the Vent Screw counterclockwise.
Loosen the Hose Clamps at the filter pump inlet and outlet. Detach both Hoses from the filter pump.
Turn the filter pump up-side-down. The Base is now locked by a latch pin. To release the lock, push the latch pin down and then turn left. Detach the Base from the Canister by turning counterclockwise.
Remove the Base from the Canister.
Remove the Motor Assembly from the Canister. Be careful not to lose the Rubber Nozzle.
ROTOR INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
to replace the Rotor Assembly, remove the Volute Cover and pull out the Rotor Assembly from the Pump Body.
Inspect the rotor assembly to make sure that it has all of its parts and that the center shaft, magnetic axle, or impeller blades are not broken as this will cause the pump to fail. If your rotor assembly is broken, a complete rotor assembly may be purchased at funsicle.com without having to replace the whole pump.
PLEASE NOTE: Even if the rotor assembly is in perfect condition if it is not seated properly between the volute cover and the pump it will not function correctly.
Once the rotor assembly has been checked or if replacing with a new rotor assembly, slowly insert the rotor assembly back down into the pump carefully. The force of the magnet will pull the rotor assembly into the pump.
Align the Shaft properly and fasten the Volute cover with the Volute Cover Lock Nut or with the Volute Cover Bolt and Nut Set.
Attach the Rubber Nozzle to the outlet of Motor Assembly. To complete assembly, proceed to ”Pump Replacement Instructions” below.
PUMP REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
Lubricate the Canister Gasket and Insert it into the groove on the bottom of
the Canister.
Please make sure the cord has been placed through the Pump Base before replacing Pump. Then slowly insert the Pump Motor Assembly back into the Canister.
Once the Pump is inserted into the Canister, please make sure the arrow with the indentation is pointing to the matching indentation on the canister and make sure that the Rubber Nozzle is aligned with the water Outlet on the Canister. There is a groove on the pump that needs to be aligned with the notch on the canister (visible from bottom only). Please make sure that the pump is correctly aligned, if it is not aligned correctly the Pump Base can still lock in place but may leak.
Once the Pump is properly aligned, be sure the Gasket is properly in place. Then slide the Pump Base up to the base of the canister and carefully tighten the Pump Base onto the threads by turning clockwise. IMPORTANT: Make sure the pump base is not cross threaded. Cross threading can cause leaking out of the bottom of the canister.
To lock the Pump Base, apply the latch pin by turning to the right.
ASME Compliant Suction Fitting Information PSF-2021A AND PSF-2021B SUCTION OUTLET (FOR ABOVE GROUND POOLS)
PSF-2021A and PSF-2021B Suction Outlet Fittings are certified by IAPMO in accordance with the ASME/ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 2017 Suction Fittings for Use in Swimming Pools, Wading Pools, Spas, and Hot Tubs.
This is a submerged suction outlet for use with above ground swimming pools.
For dual drain only. TWO outlet fittings are used for each pump.
Do not locate these suction outlet fittings on sitting areas or on the backrest for such seating area.
Install this outlet fittings at location recommended by the pool manufacturer. Maximum height 1.8 m from the ground.
The maximum allowable flow rate of PSF-2021A is 28 gallons per minute (1,680 gallons per hour) and PSF-2021B is 34 gallons per minute (2,040 gallons per hour).
Connection hose:
Model PSF-2021A is to be connected with 1 ¼” (31.8mm) diameter hose.
Model PSF-2021B is to be connected with 1 ½” (38.1mm) diameter hose.
The suction outlet fitting is to be mounted at the suction outlet fitting opening as specified by the manufacturer of the aboveground pool. The diameter of this opening should be within the range of 1.875” (47.625mm). Refer to the following diagram for detailed assembly instructions:
PSF-2021A or PSF-2021B Suction Outlet Fitting is to be replaced every 3 years.
No tool is required for installation.
Service & winterizing instructions:
CAUTION! DO NOT EXCEED THE MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE FLOW RATE: 28 gallons per minute (1,680 gallons per hour) for PSF-2021A and 34 gallons er minute (2,040 gallons per hour) for PSF-2021B.
Carefully observe and inspect the suction outlet fitting for damage and tampering. Missing, broken or cracked suction outlet fitting must be replaced before each use of your pool.
Loose suction outlet fittings should be reattached or replaced before each use of your pool.
Remove and store the suction outlet fitting assembly if temperatures are expected to fall below 32°F (0°C).
Installation Requirements and Limitations for Suction Outlet Fitting Assembly (SOFA)
All SOFAs shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions, or for RDP SOFAs, in
accordance with the registered design professional’s engineering plans.No modification shall be made to a SOFA structure or flow path unless the new configuration has been certified
to the original SOFA.The performance-based flow ratings for all SOFA(s) are tested with standard《ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 2017》.
These flow limits are designed to prevent suction entrapment.Compliance with this standard requires that these SOFA-configuration specific flow ratings NOT be exceeded
at any time the pool is open to bathers.Compliance with this standard requires selecting and installing a SOFA, or combination of SOFAs, such that the
resulting individual suction system flow rating is greater than the pumping system’s maximum system flow rate.The flow rating for pools with multiple, blockable SOFAs piped together in one body of water without isolation
valves shall be determined by combining the flow rating of all SOFAs, minus the flow rating of one. If the flow
ratings of all SOFAs are not equal, subtract the flow rating of the SOFA with the highest flow rating. SOFAs are
not intended for single application and are not unblockable. Flow rating: PSF-2021A: 28 GPM; PSF-2021B: 34 GPM.The cover/grate for this pump is “For Use in Storable Pool Only”. The cover/grates, when installed, shall not
protrude more than 2 inches (51 mm) from the finished surface of the pool in which the SOFA is installed.When used in multiple-outlet systems, cover/grates marked blockable shall be arranged such that the two
outermost sumps/frames shall have a minimum separation of three feet, measured center-to-center. If they
are to be installed closer than three feet center-to-center, they shall be located on two different planes, i.e.,
one SOFA shall be located on the pool floor, and one shall be located on a vertical wall, or one SOFA shall be
located on each of two separate walls.The Suction Outlet Fitting Assembly (SOFA) has been certified to the consumer product safety rule applicable
to SOFAs, which is covered in the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act 《ANSI/APSP/ICC-16 2017》
